Unnecessary Pity

Maitrin was the first to say it and we loved her for it;

“I don’t want to be pitied”.

She had left her drug abusing husband and is one of the few women in India filing for divorce. When she lived in Mumbai shortly after she left her husband she was pitied by many. An emotion that left her feeling week and helpless.

When she moved to Pune she was able to take control of the situation and end the pity. “Being pitied doesn’t help. It makes you feel worse and leaves you feeling helpless with your situation.”

Even Moni whom we met on the first day, did not want our pity despite her apparent unhappiness.

Many of the women we have met seek strength. They desire opportunities. They want hope. The last thing they want is pity.

Truth: Forget The Pity, Inspire Hope.
